Workshop: Effective communication for researchers

In this workshop, moderated by communication expert Tom De Moor, professionals will demonstrate the principles and the methods that work effectively for broadcasting, policy information, and business interaction.

Prof. Iain Stewart

Iain Stewart is a Scottish geologist and Professor in Geoscience Communication. Described as geology's "rock star", Stewart is best known to the public as the presenter of a number of science programmes for the BBC, notably ‘Earth: The Power of the Planet’. Stewart received an honorary doctorate from Ghent University. During the workshop, Prof. Stewart will demonstrate how to make your research attractive for broadcasting.

Patricia De Clercq

Patricia De Clercq is the Head of Division at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries at the Flemish government. The study service builds up knowledge derived from universities and other research organizations to advise policy makers in area’s such as agriculture, environment, spatial planning and innovative themes like crowdfunding, and insect breeding, During the workshop you will receive advise on how to bring your research to the attention of governmental study services.

Filip Arnaut

Filip Arnaut is R&D Director at Puratos, an international group offering a full range of innovative products, raw materials and application expertise to the bakery, patisserie and chocolate sectors. Filip Arnaut showcases with the Mission to Mars program how the combination of scientific research and storytelling leads to impact, advanced networking and collaboration.

Marie-Leen Verdonck

Marie-Leen Verdonck is a young researcher who recently successfully defended her PhD at our faculty. She is well known in the media as the expert on urban heat islands and how to mitigate their effects. Marie-Leen will share with you her experiences and some tips and tricks.

Doctoral schools training

At the end of the workshop those wo registered for the full program will be asked to submit an article or explanatory video to communicate their research by 22 march 2022. Feedback will be given by a communication expert.
