Recruitment, promotion and selection

The Policy unit for Diversity and Gender makes a call for more transparency and accountability in academic recruitment and selection in order to overcome the inequality practices that have led to an underrepresentation of women among full professors and in top positions.

  • Advertisement shall be done in such a way as to attract a broad spectrum of applicants. Vacant positions shall be described in gender-neutral terms.
  • Instruments and a toolkit (only available on our Dutch website) were created for gender neutral recruitment and selection procedures.
  • UGent implemented a new career policy for full professorship taking gender factors into consideration. As such, since 1th October 2012 all selection committees for recruitment, appointment and promotion are gender balanced.
