Global Minds Open calls

New opportunities to build innovative responses to global and local challenges

Since 2017, the Federal Government allocates funds to Ghent University through the office of the VLIR-UOS to operate as driver for change for sustainable development, by producing and valorising relevant knowledge and expertise through mutual beneficial partnerships with and between (non-) academic actors in Belgium and partner countries. By integrating SDG-issues related to the Global South into education and research, the Global Minds Fund (GMF) strives to foster critical global citizenship with its students, staff and alumni and to promote international  solidarity in society in order to better respond to global challenges.

The first Global Minds Programme ends in August 2022 and from September, the new five year programme will run until August 2027.

This Ghent University Global Minds Fund (GMF) 2.0 is designed as an ‘innovator’ programme that will (1) increase the production and application of innovative solutions to global challenges and (2) that will sustain, improve and expand the equitable collaboration with partners in the Global South. To gain a better understanding of the interdisciplinary and global dimensions of local realities and challenges, engaging in global and multi-stakeholder partnerships is crucial. The expected overall impact of GMF 2.0 is to increase the engagement of the whole Ghent University community in equitable partnerships with the Global South.

The Global Minds Fund is addressed to all staff and students, whether or not already active in Global South partnerships.

The Commission for Development Cooperation (COS) will issue a call for proposals for six types of intervention.
